Practical ECD and parenting tips reach Solomon Islands families through SIBC radio drama

Daily radio dramas featuring early childhood development (ECD) themes will soon reach Solomon Islands listeners through the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Commission (SIBC).

The radio dramas will be aired three times a day on weekdays over three months, to support parents and caregivers with practical applications of ECD for the betterment of young children.

This initiative will comprise a total of 10 radio dramas, covering the following five ECD topics with two segments each: Health Nutrition Early Learning Protection and Safety Responsive Caregiving

The radio drama segments will be supported by a series of parenting sessions through the Guadalcanal Council of Women. Copies of the radio dramas will also be shared with community facilitators for use during future family and parenting sessions.

Key messages and themes in the radio dramas are informed by community consultations supported by the Australian Government and UNICEF Pacific with the enthusiastic collaboration of the Solomon Islands Government as well as the Guadalcanal Provincial Government.

Once aired, the scripts and copies of the radio dramas will be shared in the Resources section of the Pacific Child website, in the hopes that it will support and inspire future such initiatives in member countries of the Pacific Regional Council for Early Childhood Development (PRC4ECD).
