2020 PRC4ECD Meeting

Meeting

The 2020 Pacific Regional Council for Early Childhood Development (PRC4ECD) Meeting was convened virtually on 27 November 2020. The meeting was chaired by the Honourable Ifereimi Waqainabete, Minister for Health of Fiji, and Honourable Sili Epa Tuioti, Minister for Finance of Samoa, and supported by the Representative of UNICEF Pacific, Mr. Sheldon Yett, as the Council Secretariat. The programme agenda is in Annex A.

The meeting was attended at Ministerial level by Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI), Samoa, and Tuvalu. Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tokelau, and Vanuatu were represented at Officials level. Government representatives were from the various ministries of education, finance, health, planning, internal affairs, women and children.

In attendance as observers were representatives of the Government of New Zealand (NZ), Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), the World Bank, and Asian Development Bank. The full list of Participants is at Annex B.

With the overall objective of strengthening countries’ commitments to ECD in the face of COVID-19, the planned outputs of the meeting were: to provide feedback to and endorse an out-of-session paper for the Forum Economic Ministers’ Meeting (FEMM) on policy options to strengthen ECD investments; to endorse the draft PRC4ECD 10-year Workplan; to elect the next Co-Chairs of PRC4ECD and; to receive an update from selected countries on advances and challenges in ECD.
